Juniors play impressed Featured

Written by Bobby Kerr

2017 VNV winners wHELENSBURGH Tennis Club’s juniors were out in force for the annual Voters and Non-Voters Tournament at the weekend.

The event partners a junior with an adult in a round robin tournament, and the standard of play from the juniors really impressed the adults.

In the first semi-final ladies club champion Katie Hope was partnered with eight year-old Archie Bell.

Katie was very impressed with Archie’s consistent play, but they did not have enough firepower to beat Clive Charters and Anna Scullion.

In the other semi-final Morag Cawley and Ross Hamilton narrowly lost to Alison Fotheringham and Findlay Cowie.

In the final Anna’s hard-hit forehands and Clive’s deep lobs gave Alison and Findlay problems early in the match.

But as the final went on it was Findlay’s accurate serving and Alison’s solid net play that proved enough to secure them enough games to win the match.

The club will celebrate all this year’s prizewinners at a prizegiving ceremony in the clubhouse on Friday September 29 at 7pm.
